Bimose Tribal Council’s Anishinaabemowin Department proudly hosted its 1st Anishinaabemowin Framework Gathering, bringing together Elders, educators, leadership, and language experts from across our member communities to help shape the future of Anishinaabemowin.
The gathering marked an important milestone in the development of a Regional Anishinaabemowin Language Progression Framework, an initiative designed to support language revitalization by creating a shared approach to language learning and resource development throughout Bimose’s 10 member communities.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in meaningful discussions focused on strengthening the path from language learners to fluent speakers and, ultimately, to future language carriers. Together, they explored what successful language learning looks like, identified key stages in language development, and discussed priorities for classroom and community-based resources that will support learners of all ages.
The valuable knowledge and perspectives shared during the gathering will help guide the creation of new language resources planned for Summer 2026 and support implementation in schools and communities beginning in Fall 2026. By working together, participants are helping ensure that Anishinaabemowin continues to thrive for future generations.
The gathering was led by Anishinaabemowin Advisor Cynthia Jourdain and Anishinaabemowin Specialist Bernice Greene, whose leadership and dedication continue to strengthen language revitalization efforts throughout the region.
