Term: Contract F/T Position – August 24, 2026 – July 2, 2027

Location: Shoal Lake No.40 First Nation

Salary: Commensurate with Qualifications & Experience

Shoal Lake 40 First Nation is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual for the position of Native Language Instructor at the Harvey Redsky Memorial School. The school serves students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 and is committed to providing a high-quality, culturally responsive learning environment that supports student achievement, well-being, and community values.

Primary Function:

Provide Ojibwe language to students and support to all learners at the HRMS. In a team setting the employee will adhere to curriculum guidelines and direction provided by the school principal. Shall develop and implement student individual education plans; and may provide additional support to teaching staff where required.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Develop lesson plans, assessments, evaluations and provide language instruction for all grades assigned.
  • Create and provide long range of plans for the instruction delivery and submit them to the principal.
  • Inspire and mentor students to develop pride in their ancestral language and motivate them to use language in communications within all aspects of their daily lives.
  • Collaborate with teachers in the development of Anishinabemowin language, resources, and curriculum to inform classrooms of language learning outside of language classroom specific.
  • Provide effective classroom management.
  • Develop and maintain progress reports and term report cards.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all information related to students, parents and staff.
  • Attend workshops, training sessions and conferences.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications:

B.Ed. and/or Native Language Certification

Minimum two (2) year experience working with children is considered an asset.

Experience teaching in a First Nation school is considered an asset.

Excellent verbal, written and communication skills in both languages.

Must be proficient with the use of computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet usage, as well as any relevant educational software.
