Nutrition Assistant
Summary
The Nutrition Assistant will assist with the delivery of the nutrition program at the Gaagagegiizhigook Ganawenimaawoswin Wiigiwaam (GGW) Childcare Centre. They will assist the Cook with daily food preparation, serving and clean-up of small meals and snacks for children ages 18 months to 6 years ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen and equipment with strict adherence to the policies and procedures of the Daycare and the local health unit.
Duties
- Assist cook with meal preparation and following all safe food handling guidelines
- Ensure all special dietary restrictions for children’s are met
- Plan and carry out experiences that and promote children’s understanding healthy eating
- Organize workspace, equipment and supplies prior to daily activities
- Assist with shopping and inventory control when required
- Operate standard kitchen equipment i.e. Stove, microwave, dishwasher
- Clean and sanitize kitchen, disinfect tables, counters and sinks daily;
- Clean and sanitize washroom at least once a day, sweep and wash floors as needed Follow licensing and other regulatory requirements
- Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the children, families and staff.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year experience working in food preparation
- Current Safe Food Handler’s and First Aid and infant C.P.R. Certification
- Criminal reference check including vulnerable sector
- Current TB skin test
- Valid Class G Driver’s License is considered an asset
